Rockhounding

Anyone been to Round Mt. Rockhound Area or the Blackhills area?
I'm interested in giving it a try, but have read where it may not be passable for a passenger car...just curious if this was true or just a recommendation?
Any help would be appreciated! I'll also take some rockhounding tips if anyone has some to give-I'm a beginner!

Black Hills by Safford/Clifton?
If so, be sure to send in some pics of the petrified palm you find!

There's a few on site from the area but they may not be quick to respond

BTW...if you come to phx, BYOG (bring your own gas)

Yep-near Safford....

And PLEASE don't say that about the gas....the car rental has already been enough to kill us!!!! AHHHHH! It's only $44 LESS than the plane tickets!

Visit the BLM website (http://www.az.blm.gov/), Safford for some info. Check out the Hot Well Dunes Recreation area SE of Safford. You will be surprized what clings to the underside of a rock after you pick it up.
