Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Looking for a long day hike in the supes over veterans day weekend. Looking to go somewhere I'd never been before and not looking to be around a lot of people. Originally the plan was to do the Phoenix Seven Summit Challenge this weekend but I decided I did not want to hike with all those people and I could do that anyday without paying $30.
I had a few choices I had it narrowed down too. Want mileage to be between 8 and 15 miles. P
I was thinking
Peters Canyon
Tortilla Creek Canyon
Charlebois Spring from Peralta
Upper First Water Creek
Willow Springs
If anyone has any comments on which of these are best or if there are any other suggestions for a better route please post it.

Re: any suggestions
I've never done Willow Springs or Tortilla Creek.
Out of the rest, my favorite was Peter's Canyon. (I have yet to finish the loop above the waterfall).
Charlesbois is not bad, but it didn't have the wow factor for me.
Upper First Water was all pain for no gain, in my opinion.
I assume you're talking about the Tortilla Creek off the Hoolie, I haven't seen a hike description for that yet, but I want to do that one day. So, if you're the exploring type let us know how it goes.
Just make sure there's no rain in the forecast if you do one of the canyon trips.

Re: Supes over veterans day weekend suggestions
Tortilla Creek Canyon although easier to negotiate without water isn't very exciting without it.
Charlebois Spring from Peralta is probably more then you want. Distance + Rollercoaster + catclaw for a mile = ugh
I prefer from First Water in the Spring when the creeks are running.
Upper First Water Creek is boring without huge spring runoff.
Willow Springs is a good read, leave it at that.
Peters Canyon would be optimum for the forecasted temps!

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Willow Springs (from first water) is a nice long hike with a lot of boulder hopping and off trail navigation (sorta, the trail is overgrown to hell). West Boulder is a mother after the initial section, no real trail to follow, etc. Once you get there...well there isn't a whole lot to see. The entire trip, mostly, is in the bottom of a canyon, so not too many awe inspiring views along the way.
Just my opinion anyway.
Peters Canyon would be the best hike I think, for this time of year.

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Okay Peter's Canyon sounds good but I am a little concerned about the parking situation. Is the pullout easy to miss? WIll I get my car towed?
I would really hate to come back from a hike with no car and no cell phone reception.

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Put your worries aside. Right after passing Tortilla Flats as you go up hill there's a good space to park on the on-coming traffic side. In the unlikely event that one is taken there's a couple others just not as good. You won't get towed unless for some odd reason they've posted it no parking. Just write illegal alien on the side window in lip stick, nobody'll touch it. Others will recommend parking at Tortilla Flats. Personally I'd be more concerned with that option.

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Thumbed through Hikers Guide and am now considering another option Marsh Valley loop from First Water. Any info on this one? Specifically anyone know if White Rock Spring near Cavalry and Dutchman intersection have water?
Or possibly a complete loop through Lower LaBarge Box one of my favorites coming from the Calvary trail side. So many options its hard to make a decision. Maybe even Charlebois from First Water?
Decisions, decisions.

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
I would do what I call the Fish Creek Run. Park your car at the Tortilla Trailhead and walk the road in past the old Tortilla Ranch site. Keep going left on the old roads and then hike down to Fish Creek where it begins running from the east to the north. There used to be a cowboy trail down to the bottom of Fish Creek Canyon. Read some of the previous posts about Fish Creek to gain more information. Hike from there to the Fish Creek Canyon bridge where highway 88 (Apache Trail) crosses the canyon. Hitch hike from there back to your car so you do not have to walk up Fish Creek Hill. I've done that trip many times and have always gotten a ride back up the hill to my car. One time it was in an open top jeep with three ASU Coeds IN BIKINIS! :yikes:

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Right now I am leaning toward either Charlebois from FW or Willow Springs even after what you guys said it still sounds like a hike I want to do. Looks a little cloudy tonight... hoping for rain and then I might lean towards canyon trip.

Re: Supes Veterans Day Weekend Suggestions
Ya So I could just not decide which hike to go on. I was waffling back and forth between all the ones I had mentioned and other hikes too.
SO I ended up picking the six hikes I wanted to do assigned each a number 1-6 and rolled a dice.
The results is Im trying Willow Springs.
