Cavalry Trail #239 Camping
I'm a first time hiker for the Superstitions, and I could use some advice on overnight camping along the Cavalry Trail. Has anyone camped up high? Is there water close? Is there any wood left to burn? And can I bring a flask?

Re: Cavalry Trail #239 Camping
Actually, I bring little battery operated tea lights (available at craft stores and walgreens and just about everywhere). They're light, burn forever and give you that warm, fuzzy feeling of campfirelight that any good campsite needs without burning any carbon.Goldfish wrote:I've never camped without a camp fire. How do you do that? Is there some kind of artificial fire to dance around?
Just don't burn yourself on them - can't tell you how many times I've jerked my hand back just in time...

If you see a guy hiking with a disco ball on his pack, that would be me.

Goldfish.... you spin the ball and we'll shine our lights on it for effect. If anyone tries to play Stayin' Alive, we may be forced to bring out weapons...

Re: Cavalry Trail #239 Camping
In Arizona you can carry an automatic knife (switchblade). I find a fixed knife is usually more reliable and lighter. There are some good discrete campsites near Battleship but you can pretty much camp where ever you like. There are no established/improved campsites, just places that people seem to like. I think a flask and fire are a good way to end the evening. If you must check in then you might want to just jog out and use a phone at canyon lake. I seem to remember a payphone at the marina. Otherwise your cell phone will just be ballast.
