Hey Nealz, have you hiked in the San Tans before? These are pretty much in my front yard but I've only gone over there once to hike and the area I picked was all bulldozed.nealz wrote:I've been hoping for some progress in the San Tans for some time now. They have fenced off most of the off-roaders trails into the area which helps a lot, but it still has a long way to go.

Is there any good hiking there, and isn't a large portion of that range on the resi?

I've never gone into the San Tans from Olberg or the reservation side, only from the north side. There are some old mine ruins which you can carefully explore and some great petroglyphs as well. I'm not aware of any trail names out there yet but there are trails. And so far, the area sees very little use from hikers. I suspect that will change as the county develpos the park. Again, it's good to see the off-road use curtailled in this area.

The indian community does not want non tribal members on their community (reservation). I have had encounters with the tribal police officer thta had been the subject of several newspaper articles this past year. I have found prayer fetishs and shrines on the BLM portion. Their are some petroglyphs and prehistoric agricultual features. Lots of petroglyphs and an intanglo on the indian community portion of the San Tans.

It's probably this.teva wrote:Something opened up or is opening up in the San Tans
I just caught the story line as I was throwing away a newspaper a few days ago. Sorry, I was to busy at the time to read it. It was probably the Mesa Tribune or Chandler paper.
