Newman Peak Info Please

Post by johnner »

Has anyone climbed Newman Peak in the Picacho Mts? If so could you post some info? What roads get you close? There are towers near the top so there must be some road to start from. Don't see much on the maps. Thanks

Good question, this is what I know:

Newman Peak is public land, i.e., managed by BLM. As of a few years ago there were no roads, the communication sites are accessed by helicopter.

I visit the area monthly. Access is limted due to the CAP canal and the area is state trust land so you need a permit. You can access the west by car, paved road and good gravel road. The north and east would require high clearance and some times 4x4.
