I was up there in March 2010. Got a flat tire on the way out. There's a wide path and rock garden type thing on top. It's very strange. I wouldn't mind hearing its history if anyone knows.

Tell me more about the flat tire. I planned on soloing it, and I am concerned about a 5th flat.

The roads out there are not bad, no higher risk of a flat than anywhere else.

Ok, that is my main concern for solo travel.

Actually, they are quite rocky so it's slow going and the risk of a flat is higher. That being said, I have a 2007 Tundra, the first year they got big and Toyota put cheap pumpkin passenger rated tires on that heavy vehicle instead of heavier duty tires that most heavy pickups would have.

Well, I was hoping for a bit more history than that.

Off-topic, but I've always wanted to see the coding behind the pumpkin filter. That must be a long, fun string of swear words.

Again Off-Topic, but just so you know, there is also a :pk: Icon....

Perhaps the rock garden is a shrine. King S. Woolsey also has a point & butte named after him between Saddle Mtn/Nankoweep in Grand Canyon. This well known settler had a ranch and station in the Gila Bend area. He led volunteer troops along with Alsop and Montgomery in defeating natives in the battle of Bloody Basin.

With my track record of 4 flats in 2 years, should I not solo this in my car? I mean, I get flats right and left. I wanted a partner for tire safety.

Well, I may re-post for the future, but I don't want to risk a flat tire alone out there, and my car attracts them.

I can go with you in Feburary on a Sunday or a Saturday after or on the 14th. I'm not 100% sure of my schedule in Feburary, but I can let you know when i know. Early March is okay too.

Also, you can hike Saddle Mtn in Tonopah if you are looking westward tomorrow. Saddle Mtn is easy to get to and has bighorn sheep and deer. A lot of drunken rednecks go to Saddle Mtn tho to shoot their guns and discard their trash, so I'd hit it on a weekday.
