| no partners | | My Track took me counter clockwise on the SX (Spur Cross) Trail/FS 48 to the Coral, then west on TR 252 past both of the springs then south at the next intersection point on the .4m segment to the EM (Elephant Mountain) trail. I went down the Elephant Mountain trail to what ended up being .2 mile short of the intersection with the SX (Spur Cross), and turned around. My feet had enough of boulder hopping on the 5 inch rocks, so back the way I'd come. South to the TR (Tortuga) trail to the MT (Metate) trail, a short bypass on the TW (Towhee) Trail, and some playing in the creek bed. At the intersection of the Metate and Spur Cross trails I went down and played in the water for a bit.
The weather was incredible today! The water in the creek was running pretty strong. They had warning signs up that you would get your feet wet crossing the creek because of the recent rain, but I was able to boulder hop all the crossings (or around the crossings) and stay dry.
This is my first time to this area, and I loved it. There is a wide variety of terrain, plant life, birds, rocks, and the Cacti are Massive out here. Once past the initial road to the creek, I didn't see another soul for 4 hours.
The grasses were knee deep in places between the 2 springs on the TR 252 segment. On the Metate Trail, there were the foundations of what I'm assuming to be the old ranch. The cement staircase they hand formed to descend into the creek is still intact.
It was another one of those trips that I took way too many pictures. The first time I've ever had a battery run out on me, and it was 20 min before sunset. |
