It was nice to hike under the cover of trees, hidden away from the sun's heat. The trail goes up for a while, smooths out at the top of the ridge, and then goes back down again. At the fork, took the 1 mile trail to Carr TH then walked down to Peterson TH and went up the Abbey's Way 151 Trail to the top of Aztec. Loved the views on this hike and wish I could take that nice evergreen scent home with me.. mmmm! Once at the top we took a break for lunch, chatted with Red for a little bit, and made edible contributions to his dog. We decided at that point that it would be prudent to add a few miles to the hike. Followed the road down to Moody and combined it with the Rim Trail, which took us back to Parker Creek Trail. Some nice views and wildflowers on that segment. Followed Parker Creek Trail back the way we came. Going back up that ridge at this point was a little killer, but the sun exposure was low and the terrain was mostly rockless. Coming back down was easy and again under the cover of the evergreens.. what a nice end to a long route. Back at the TH, I took my shoes off and cooled my feet in the dirt.. ahh, nice. We finished off the adventure by heading to Libby's. The food was good and there was a lot of it. Perfect.
It was really great meeting Joe, Bruce, John, Jim, and Tim, and I had tons of fun hiking with them! Thanks for the great hike, guys! |
