The hike up was nice, even for a July afternoon. Huge trees block most of the sun from coming through. It was in the upper 80's in Prescott and I would guess it was only upper 70's during our hike. As we got into the switch back section we saw an old abandoned mine through the trees to the right. There were great views of the forest, Prescott's trees and trees toward Phoenix.
When we got to about the 1.5 mile mark and approximately 45 minutes of hiking, there was a clearing and signs directing us to different directions for hiking path 284 or 285. 284 to the right is where the tower is supposed to be, but the factors of us and the dog being tired and the fact that we saw two of the largest piles of poo we'd ever seen scared us back down the trail. We decided that the revolver that we were going to purchase next week would have been a good idea today, if we were to run into some sort of animal like a bear.
A 30ish minute hike back down the trail got us up and down 3 miles in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Not bad in our opinion, but we will definitely go the full distance the next time. |
