A little hotter this morning than the last time I was out. Still pretty cool for July. The temperature had me questioning whether or not I was going to do the whole trail. My back-up plan was to turn the Waddell Trail into a loop, but once I was in front of Ford Canyon, the sun started to shine onto the mountains and I was in awe. Absolutely beautiful. Got me in a good mood so I continued into the canyon. After taking a bunch of panorama pictures, my battery indicator popped up. I still managed to squeeze out 117 photos throughout the day.
I got to the "hazardous" section and wasn't sure what to expect. I thought there might have been big drops alongside the trail or something like that. Instead, I got the most fun terrain I've been on since Picacho Peak. It was adventurous in the wash. No designated trail meant freedom to explore! I knew how the park got its name, but this area really exemplified it. Had to "climb" at one point. Definitely a nice change of pace. On the way out of the wash, I saw what looked like a coyote. I think it was yelling at me as I was walking away. The heat really started to kick in at this point. The breeze was great when it wasn't blocked off by the mountains. Checked out Willow Springs on the way out. I'll have to come back at a better time because it was pretty dry, not that I was expecting that much water. It was about 95 degrees back at the car.
I dub the Ford Canyon Trail, the best trail in the White Tanks. |
