| partners | | Joe suggested a hike in the Superstitions. With temps in the Valley forecast to be a record high of 112, this was one more reason to believe this man is bonkers. I guess I'm a bit touched myself and agreed. Never being up here before, I knew we were going to the eastern Superstitions, but did not expect a 3hr drive. The last hour (1:03 to be exact) was on a sweet twisting jagged dirt road. Do not attempt to get to this TH with a passenger car!!
On the Trail at 6:35 and enjoying the temps so far. We stopped on the way up to look for the Reavis Grave site and found it (N33 26.703 W111 10.668).
The climb was no too bad on this one, and we were rewarded with a whole different world up top. Tall pines, large grassy meadows, gentle running streams, fruit trees, chirping birds, and gentle breezes. Joe tried to talk me into coming back in a week to pick him up. There was a meadow of sunflowers that had to be 100 yards long!

The area of the old ranch was cool. The tiled floor of the ranch still exists, although it's becoming over grown, the old well is off to the west a bit, the Orchards to the north and east. I tried one of the green apples and it was pretty good. The Apples as Joe mentions are few and far between. We did a bit more exploring and saw the old farm equipment and then, what appears to be a small Ground Headstone with the name "COWEN" on it. Any Ideas??
It was back through the field of flowers, a bit of lunch under the tall pines and then back to the Truck.
I think I said "This is the Superstitions?" about 100 times during this hike.
Great hike... highly recommended! |
