| no partners | | From trailhead go about 1/2 mile, cross the forest road, and drop down to the creek. Paralleling the creek the first mile or so is mostly shaded by trees. There were 2 creek crossings both easily managed using stepping stones (shoes never got wet). Past the creek crossings you lose your tree cover eventually coming to the Skunk "Creek" Trail junction. Hiking at a very leisurely pace with a few stops took about 2.5 hours.
Next was the 2 mile climb up Skunk Tank trail which took about 1 hour 45 minutes. Eventually you hit the #247 trail junction. After about 1/2 mile you are back to the creek crossing. Use the stepping stones to cross, go left about twenty yards, then right to connect back to the Cave Creek trail. From here you are about 1 mile from the trail head.
Overall, the entire loop took us about 6.5 hours. |
