My girlfriend and I decided that we've lived in Arizona our whole living and need to get out and explore it some more other than car camping and hunting. Wow, we are hooked. We have been doing some day hiking around the valley, but this was so much fun. We learned a lot but feel we were pretty well prepared. Our packs weighed in at 25% of each our weights, but we are going to be dropping that down hopefully to 20% with some new sleeping bags and limiting our use of stainless water bottles.
There was a lot of water in the canyon so we never had to track down any of the streams around but there was a lot of water trickling in at various locations. We had plenty of water for our simple overnighter, so we never had to filter, but the campsite we had right below the Indian ruins was very clear.
So glad we went out on Thursday and Friday instead of Friday/Saturday as when we were just getting back to the parking lot a group of about 25 scouts coming in that screamed sleepless nights.
We are ready for more and are hitting Bluff Springs Loop in a few weeks. Cannot wait! |
