The long and winding road to the trailhead was clear of traffic, with only a few off to the side either camping, ATVing or shooting their firearms. Trailhead was empty, though a family pulled up after me and were headed to Reavis Ranch and not the cliff dwellings. Went on my way at a nice pace stopping only to wolf down some turkey and chips for lunch. Reached the dwellings at about 2:30. Note there is a path up to the dwellings at about the 3.9 mile mark from the trailhead, but I missed it on the way up, and made my own! Sure there was more in the higher cliffs to see, but time was not my friend and I was freakin out about getting back before dark. The fallen leaves made the trail difficult to follow, but only lost it a few times and got back to the car around 5:00 - having not seen a soul on the trails either way. Stopped at my parents house in Gold Canyon on the way home to get some real turkey and fixins! All in all, a far less traditional Thanksgiving, but one I won't soon forget!! |
