We also followed the trail up to the top of the Rim as it is shown on the HAZ site triplog. We even went a little further over to FR214 to look around. The hike started out great but the ascent up was extremely steep and we were doing it in the middle of the day and it was hot. Not a huge deal but the heat was really taking a toll on Drew and we had to stop several times on the way up. (I didn't mind the breaks either).
On the way back down at the creek crossing I took off my shoes and put my feet in for a bit. Drew deceided to get all the way in and cool off. The water temperature was perfect! As we worked our way back to the car at Bull Pen Ranch we both agreed that the time spent hiking up the trail to the top of the rim just simply wasn't worth it.
If you want a work out then hit the Flatiron or Camelback but when in this area the time would be better spent working further up the creek to the falls and the narrows. There really isn't anything to see up top except a sign in log for that trail head and a parking area. |
