Jessica has been talking about an inflatable raft for some time now. Last week we went to Cabela's to get a medium sized one. For just a little more we got a much larger raft, it's over ten feet long and five feet wide. This one looked much more durable and comes with a pump. The Amazon reviews on-line were over a hundred all in the top 4-5 out of 5 star ratings. Save two that had delivery issues that really meant nothing to us. I dubbed the raft the JeSSica then later decided on SSica.

Lugging this thing from the car I couldn't help but start to wonder about inflating this beast. So we got a cheap car lighter plugin pump with good ratings too at Walmart. Heading in I was a little skeptical and Jessica was bursting at the seems excited. Long story short it all turned out pretty awesome.

Inflating only took 15 minutes whereas I was expecting upwards of an hour. Deflating took maybe ten minutes. The reverse suction on the pump works like a charm. The raft is durable and seems like a decent value.

For the past week Jessica has repeated over and over that she wanted to row first. Who am I to argue...lol Oh boy, it was looking a little iffy for the first five minutes. She mastered going in circles really well and I guess I better just stop before I dig a deeper hole for myself =)

Okay so my turn to row comes up. I've always thought of myself as a descent mechanically apt person... until this moment. I don't even know where to begin to start to describe it. You just feel like an idiot. Jessica summed it up pretty well. It's like rubbing the top of your head with one hand and your stomach with the other. It takes a second to figure out. Now reverse the direction of both. Yeah no problem. Now reverse the direction of the hand on your head only. If you can do that without loosing motion on the stomach hand you are probably an excellent rower.

We got considerably better after a little practice. Though if I was in the middle of an ocean with no point of reference I don't think I'd fair very well. About a half hour into it Jessica figured out we didn't have the oars rigged quite right. After fixing that it was a little easier but still no rowing machine like you find in a gym. We headed around a cove taking turns rowing about every fifteen minutes. Time was flying by really quick so we must have been having a great time! On the way back Jessica rowed for a long half mile. I was really proud how well she kept going! If I went into a practical meditation state I did best and could get the raft cruising pretty fast. The moment I started thinking about what I was doing or talking or anything I was useless until I got back into the rowing trance.

A great outing on Lake Pleasant and we look forward to many more! It's nice to get a little upper body workout too
