We parked at the end of the Willow Canyon road and skirted the lake over to Rose Hill. We did at least one climb each. I hadn't climbed in a while so it was like starting from scratch when it came to the harness and attaching the rope. We did a 5.8 route. I did pretty good considering I've only climbed a few times.
Then we bushwhacked into Willow canyon and rock hopped down to almost the start of the seven cataracts. We took a break for a few minutes as Roo's pack was adjusted and I had a bad nose bleed (due to allergies).
We got to the top and got ready. The first rappel was pretty easy (we had broken a longer one into two). But the second got me. The rope slipped and I fell. I guess I hit my head - but no worries I had my helmet on. I did bang my leg pretty good. After that fall, I pretty much ungracefully finished that rappel.
We had one rappel in which we went over a lip and then rappelled in the air. That took a lot of core muscle work which surprised me.
On one rappel a hummingbird came pretty close to me. It was neat seeing it's colors light up.
Throughout all this, Roo, a standard poodle rappelled down with his daddy. I can't imagine all the crazy thoughts going through that dog's head...
My allergies are so bad from being out all weekend I could just cry... I, also, think I'll hurt tomorrow, but this was worth it! |
