The whole trail is really nice as there is forest and shade for almost the entire trip. There is another steep section after the trail follows the canyon to the NE before you get the steep section at the end. I had hoped to get some views over the edge of the rim, but the location of the trail is a ways from any lookouts. I guess if I had looked at the map more carefully, this would have been obvious.
There were a bunch of cars and people at the trailhead, so I was initially concerned that the trail would be crowded. However, it turned out that there was some sort of a Boy Scout leaders meeting at the trailhead, and we saw only one family group on the trail near the trailhead as we came down.
This was a training hike for Humphries peak, and it was very enjoyable.
