Monday night, I drove up to Roosevelt Lake in time to catch the Sunset and enjoy the evening views, and then checked into the Cholla Campground on the Lake. I am not used to staying in the Campground itself, as we used to Camp in the Boat Launch Parking Lot with the Bass Club when we had Tournaments there. The Campground is very nice actually, and since it was a weekday, it was nice and quiet. Built a nice Campfire and watched a pretty Moonrise over the Lake.
Got up Tuesday morning and went Fishing. It's tough Fishing off the bank on this big Lake, but I had figured the area around Cholla might give me a decent chance, even Fishing uphill. The Mornings are pretty chilly up there and I have a feeling that the Fish are now deeper and not feeding as much. Didn't catch anything, but it was a nice, relaxing day when I wasn't stumbling around on the boulders on the Shoreline.... I'm going to have to get me a Kayak or something to Fish these bigger Waters....
After I got skunked Fishing, I packed up the Escape and headed for my Camping Spot for that night. I was going to Hike Pinto Creek Canyon the next day, so I decided that I would spend the night there and just get up and go the next morning....First time in this area, but I had done a little research both with HAZ, HAZers and the FS to find out the condition of FR 242. I need not have worried, it was a piece of cake for the Escape. I've definitely been on worse roads than that...Did pick up a nice, new, probably more permanent, AZ Pinstripe on the Escape, pulling into a nice Campsite up there. The Escape has now been officially christened... More on this Camping in my separate Hiking Triplog....
Wednesday, after I finished my Hike in Pinto Creek Canyon, I drove back out to Roosevelt Lake and the Cholla Campground for one more night. I had a relative I wanted to visit the next day in Tonto Basin and I was also helping JJ and Nick out with a Shuttle at Barnhardt in the afternoon. Enjoyed another pretty afternoon/evening at the Lake....
Thursday morning, I got up, packed up, and went to visit my Aunt. After a nice visit, I drove out to Mt. Ord and picked out a Campsite for that night, since I was doing a Hike there on Friday. I needed to unload some gear before I picked the guys up or else they would have been riding on the Roof.... Went out to Barnhardt and ended up arriving a little early, so I wandered. I'll put that little wander in another Triplog....Both the Supermen showed up right on time and I drove them over to Nick's Car at FR201. After dropping them off, I went across the Highway and up Mt. Ord. Road to my Campsite and got set up. I'll include the rest of the those details with my separate Hike Triplog.
Finished up Hiking and Camping on Friday afternoon and headed back to the Valley. Very enjoyable Trip, might wait for it to warm back up in the Spring before I go Camping in those areas again. It was pretty chilly in the Mornings and Evenings up there, thankfully I was able to have Campfires to keep the Chill off in the evenings, at least until turn in time... Kinda glad I was still sleeping in the Escape, instead of a Tent, it would have been much colder... Looking forward to the next Trip, where ever that may be.... |
