| no partners | | Tuesday Afternoon, I drove up FR242 to Pinto Creek and found a really nice little Campsite.
FR242 is in good shape right now. Had a nice little Campfire that night and enjoyed the Solitude. Got up Wednesday morning, packed up the Escape and then headed out on foot, wading downstream through the Creek.
Had anticipated that the Water might be pretty cold, so I wore thin, Wool Socks, with a pair of socks over them designed for Water. Not Seal Skins, REI was out, but they had a different kind that act more like a Wetsuit. Your feet get wet, but they stay warm. And then I put on my crummy, "don't care if they get ruined" tennis shoes. My feet never got cold...
I can see doing this Hike in the alloted time on the Description only as long as you stay out of the Creek and just follow it... I stayed in it for the most part, except when encountering deep pools, then I literally had to bushwack pretty heavily in places to get out of it and go around...Just a tad too cold for a swim and 95% of my jaunt was in the Shade...
Took a spill once, luckily not in the Water, but that made it hurt more since it was on some kind of Lava/Pumice type Rock area. Fell awkwardly taking a chunk of hide off my Palm about the size of a Quarter. Both Knees and the left Shoulder were pretty sore that night and the next morning....
Took a ton of time, both due to the Creek Wading/Bush Wacking, and the fact that this was the "Maiden Voyage" for a brand new Camera that I had no clue how to work.... Figures I would pick a "Water Hike" for it's first Trip. That probably slowed me down too, as I was most likely overly "cautious"... Plus, just working out the bugs of carrying a bigger case and it's a little more effort to get it in and out of the case than my old one. All of that time added up.... Took three times as many pictures, using various modes and settings... I did take my old Camera along and shot a few pictures with it simply for Time Management purposes...
Got to the opening of the Slot Canyon and realized that everything I had seen up to now was just the Appetizer.... For several reasons, including Time, I decided to turn around at this point. I will save this part for a warmer day when I can swim. And even if the Creek I had seen wasn't enough, what lay ahead gives me a great reason to come back...
Stayed out of the Creek on the way back and "surprise", I made good time...
Back to the Escape and drove back out, taking a few Pot Shots with the old Camera along the way...
My impressions of this Hike, Creek, and Canyon? Speechless and can't wait to return. I'll let my Photos tell the rest of the Story.... |
