Having never been to Sycamore Canyon and wanting to swim, I was really looking forward to checking out Parsons Trail. The only others in the canyon were heading out as I headed in. Right away I was quite impressed with this wilderness of colorful cliffs, plentiful water, lush vegetation, chattering birds and numerous caves. I was in awe and quicky filled my camera's memory card. With darkness rapidly approaching, I turned around just short of Parsons Spring. Locating a choice pool, I jumped into the refreshing water. Nearby, a turtle dove for cover beneath a submerged bedrock ledge. I continued back in the dark, my headlamp illuminating hundreds of small, reflective spider eyes that sparkled like diamonds in the dusty trail. After one final dunk in the creek, I climbed the hill back to the trailhead, where I enjoyed a solo tailgate party and a ramen noodle dinner. A great, albeit brief adventure, and one that will not soon be forgotten. |
