I was looking for a short hike with a fair amount of elevation gain not far from home. This one fit the bill. Packed a lunch and headed to the top. The trail gets rough going through vertical blades of shale poking out of the ground. No switchbacks, just straight up the north side. Quite a few people on the trail for a weekday - most appeared to be locals out getting some exercise. Good 360 deg views from the top but it was hazy - probably water vapor in the air from the recent rains. I was surprised to find the view through my camera was clearer than with the naked eye so used the camera telephoto lens to scan hilltops along Cave Creek for Indian Ruins. Didn't see any.
