It sits at the mouth of the Mandal River, and is famous for its seven beaches. A large park/preserve which the local term translates to "Mandal's Pharmacy" is definitely medicine for the soul. A large and very popular campground exists here as well, where some come from mainland Europe (via Ferry from Denmark) to spend a couple of weeks of their summer vacation.
Destinations included the gazebo at the top of the Uranienborg hill that overlooks town. There are still German bunker tunnels in the hillside due to it's strategic location overlooking the city. After heading out to the beach, we climbed to a wooded viewpoint (Hobdetoppen) that looks over the harbor and out to sea.
At the end of the day we drove a few miles to their seaside cabin for some dinner. A great way to spend the day! |
