Looked like a great day to be outside, so we packed up the truck and headed west. Walkin'Jim had been on the to do list for a while. Close by, decent distance, some elevation gain and we knew this area had lots of views and critters.

Just a few cars at the trailhead and we only saw one hiker at a distance all day. Stayed down in the wash bottom for the first half mile just to check it out. Still some rock pocket pools of water from the rains scattered along the wash. More water at Walkin' Jim Spring, but just a little bit of a flow. Warn enough that the algae is blooming all green and scummy.

Took a detour along part of Little Jim and then back tracked. Stopped at the intersection with Big Jim, but put that off until another day. Took a light lunch along the trail and then pushed on. Ran across a young muley doe lounging in the midday. She trotted off a ways but then stopped to watch us move on up the trail before going to find herself a shady spot for more rest.

Love how many of the rocks here have lichen all over them. Very colorful.

About 3 miles before reaching the truck, and not around anything resembling civilization, my hiking partner asks from behind me, "what's this thing", holding up an 18 inch crowbar. "Its a crowbar and before you ask I don't have any idea what it is doing here." Now I have a slightly rusty new old crowbar. Amazing what you find along the trail.

Foot sore and happy, we headed over to Oregano's in Cave Creek for suds, salad, and pizza.
