| no partners | | After camping at Turkey Creek I took my time driving back out through Klondyke, stopping at the Salazar Church, the Nature Conservancy Ranch House, the old store, and BLM campground, etc. I was also planning to stop at the Klondyke Cemetery for some photos of the Powers graves, but was unable to find it. I knew it was on a hill near town, but several trips up and down the road yielded no real clues. The grader was out again working on the road, so I stopped to ask him. He said to go back toward Klondyke and look for a gate across the road from two stock tanks. I found it, but the gate was locked, and with the no trespassing signs prevalent I just decided to move on.
Also, I wanted to see where the road up Rattlesnake Mesa (to go to Powers Garden) left the main road. Turns out where I stopped to talk with the grader driver was right near there. He said I couldn't get through however, as a rancher was having some sort of dispute with game and fish and locked a gate denying access. I wasn't planning on going there anyway, but wanted to know where it was for future reference. Sure enough there was a sign up stating road closed ahead. I only know what he told me and can't verify if true.
Stopped at the old store at Bonita and headed over to the entrance to Fort Grant, before driving to Willcox. Had a meal at Salsa Fiesta and then headed home. |
