As twilight approached found a not driven much little side road, and drove it up toward some low hills and mine tailings. The road appeared washed out on up and I found a flat spot to park near a little tree. I didn't think much would be going on here so walked up to the first significant tailings pile after getting my camp set up. Finding I could get into a lengthy tunnel, went back to camp and turned in. Up early and got my headlamps etc together and started out. Remains of milling sites, and platforms for motors hauling stuff up shafts. One really long tunnel with several side stopes and some workings. Pretty rock in places, plain in others. Some nasty looking shafts, not much fun even with the thought of rope. I think I want at least two really long ropes for a couple of them. One I almost stepped into with the brush. Mining area opened in the late 1800's. Hasn't been worked in quite a while. I love these interesting old places. |
