| no partners | | I had a very busy day planned... if the weather cooperated. If I could bag five relatively 'easy' peaks today I would complete all six listed peaks in the Rockinstraw Mountain Quadrangle.
Ah, the weather... yet I believe if I had not done some extra 4x4 exploring in between hikes it may have still been possible without being rained on.
For starters I was off to a great start, all the Forest Roads had been graded not long ago and being mostly a sandy-gravel there was no trace of mud, even after the overnight rains. Even the track leading up toward Redmond Tank was reasonable enough I drove halfway to the tank, at which point it turned into mud-crawler terrain.
Being mostly a descent it wasn't long before I reached Redmond Tank, when the first ascent began. Looking at the huge boulders at first the terrain appeared daunting but once I realized there were many cowpaths that led meandering but relatively easy tracks. Enough that I would follow a series of them all the way to the summit.
The true summit was a 20-foot boulder, so even though it appeared someone had been able to place a small cairn on the top, I was unable to scale it. So I made do by standing on the highest point next to it.
Wow! There were awesome views for such a quick-and-easy hike.
Ok, so far I lucked out by missing the forecast thunderstorms but I knew that could change quickly so made quick work of the return trip.
