| no partners | | It's been too long since encountering a rattlesnake while mountain biking at Usery so when everything aligned...
1. I had the time
2. I felt like taking an easy ride
3. It was sunny but still low 70's in the early afternoon
4. Most important of all... I just had this feeling a rattler encounter was in store for me.
And everything worked out perfectly... about halfway through Moon Rock Trail (wrapping up the west end of my figure-8 loop) there's my rattler, spread across the trail in warming-up mode. I was going too fast to stop so tightened my turn just enough to miss running over it by a few inches.
I stopped, set the bike down and walked back to take some photos and hopefully a bit of video. I was a little disappointed the rattler had not warmed up fully so it was lethargic. Ok, for photos but not so much for video, but I shot one anyway.
