Since my weekend plans fell through, I thought this would be a good chance to put my feet on the tread so that I can say that I actually did the entire passage. My wonderful own trail angel - my daughter - and our dogs accompanied me. We parked at the 1st road crossing on FS650, hiked NOBO to the other crossing and headed back on trail. As we walked along the road, there was noticeable water running in all of the washes and even in the road once we reached the corrals / water tank. Not sure how far up-canyon this was coming from, but it's a good sign! Nice and breezy at the start but then the breeze died down and it was getting pretty warm for the dogs. Luckily we only had that short distance to go and lots of water to hydrate them, and ourselves plus wet them down as needed. Ran into 2 passage hikers who had come from Oracle and were heading to Mt. Peely. They said that there was water in Whitford Canyon. Lots of cactus in bloom and a spattering of wildflowers. Good tread and no issues with catclaw. |
