| partners | | Whitney and I started from the Kendrick trailhead about 8:45am. Nice and cool morning, with a little bit of clouds. Saw four deer near the start, and a handful of people on the way up. Had a sandwich at the top, took some pics, then headed down Pumpkin trail. There were a few icy patches of snow around the top, but the trail was completely clear. A few trees to climb over, but nothing difficult. Pumpkin trail was really pretty--my first time on it--and I thought the views were much better than Kendrick. About 1/3 of the way down, we got off the right trail (there were some trails crisscrossing around) but I checked where we were compared to the route I had downloaded, and rather than backtrack uphill to the trail, we just went straight ahead and picked the trail back up on the other side of a curve. Walking through the regrowth in the burn areas was interesting, and quite pretty in its own way. At the Pumpkin trailhead, we followed the forest roads about 5 miles back to car at Kendrick. Nothing exciting there, but easy walking, and we saw a few more deer along the way. |
