| partners | | I had texted JJ yesterday to see what his plans were for today since I knew he would be hiking. After some discussion, we came up with a few options for today, with Battleship being the first choice after JJ promised that I wouldn't die on it. Denny decided to join in as a bonus guest. This morning, I confidently predicted that it wouldn't start raining in the Supes until about 2pm, so we decided to give Battleship a go. Started a little before 8am with sunny skies and nice temps, but we could see the clouds to the west.
We made good time to the base of Battleship, then I slowed down across the top. There were two spots that JJ & Denny had to coach me through both up & down; and one spot where JJ just pulled me up, but I got down just fine--everything else was fine for me. We got to the top in just a minute or two under 2 hrs 15 min, took a short break, then headed back down. The clouds had started to roll in while we were at the top, and the breeze had picked up and cooled off.
Once back down to Boulder Canyon, we made good time back to the car. The clouds and vibrant green vegetation made for some nice pictures along the way. Some pools of water along Boulder Canyon and Second Water but nothing was flowing. The trail was muddy in a few places, but easy to avoid the worst of the mud. On my way home, it started raining in Ahwatukee at 1:15, so my guess of 2:00 rain in the Supes was probably very close! Fun day, and a great way to spend Christmas Eve morning, plus I was glad to get this one checked off my list. Great company too! |
