| partners | | After tossing around several different ideas, Lee & I finally settled on Newman for today. We got started around 11:00 to cool temps and cloudy skies. We immediately started gaining elevation, and the terrain was rocky almost right off the bat, but the recent trail work was clearly evident--thanks, Chumley!
Blanco must still be mad at me for not sharing my beef jerky with him on one of our last hikes, because he made several attempts to knock me off the trail today, always at the steepest sections. Lee commented that this hike reminded him of Flatiron, and I have to agree--the further you go, the steeper it gets, with plenty of boulders to climb over. Luckily the rocks were dry today, attempting this in the rain would not be much fun.
We took a break at the top, had a snack, and enjoyed the views before heading back down. It was easier to stay on the right track going back down, but not much faster. We finished up around 4:00, and I think it was colder out than when we started! Nice day, and a hike I would definitely do again. |
