| no partners | | Not a hiking day, but after murky rain for two days, the sunny bright was too good to miss. I headed over to Desert Foothills Park with a late Meetup Posting. No one showed up, so I headed up the ridge north side of Quiet Canyon. This route was semi-exploratory... potentialed as a future trail?
It was good from the start. The ridge could be wrapped around and back to provide a steep but not too difficult trail with exceptional canyon and basin views. The rock might be some of the best in the area. I discovered an old gold mine, dug down through red and orange stone.
The requirement to perfect a mine filing was 10' of excavation. Most of these pits are now half that... infilled over the last 50-90 years. This hole likely had the miners excited... the rock suggested... something!
In prior hikes I was always coming down from one of the upper routes... and tended to drop straight off the ridge into Cabrito on the north side. Today, the Quiet Cliffs gave the nicer moments... found a good route up and to the upper Quiet Point.
Approaching that prominence I rotated over to the Goat side and found a nicely rock bound ascent to the top. Quiet Point in the lower of the three west prominent outcrops... Dome Rock in the center and Prominent Point to the far south.
I exited up and over to the Mesa Basin then wound around checking potential trail routes... there are many options. I'll have to go back up to work on the various exits... today I hiked over and down the Goat Springs trail.
Nice day... Nice loop... |
