Left in the early afternoon and there were good thunderstorms already brewing in the area as I neared Tombstone. Drove through some nice showers between there and the junction with SR 90. No rain had reached Bisbee yet. I checked into my room at the Copper Queen, then went down to the bar for a beer, before starting my little walk around town. Next stop was the St. Elmo Bar for another brew in the old venue. It started raining lightly while there. The shower let up and I headed out again, this time up Tombstone Canyon as far the courthouse at Quality Hill Road. I stopped at Contessa's Cantina for a light dinner, and while there the heaviest showers occurred. The timing was good, as I ventured out without hat or umbrella. When the rain stopped I walked back toward Brewery Gulch by way of Clawson Avenue, which gets you higher above the canyon for nice views. The last stop for the evening was at Old Bisbee Brewing Company, which was the highlight. Good beer and great conversation was enjoyed, while yet another thundershower rumbled through. My quest for rain was a success, with about one shower per watering hole; none causing any inconvenience. Next day I stopped at a winery near Sonoita on my scenic drive back via Greaterville/Box Canyon Road. Meanwhile back in Tucson it was business as usual: hot and dry with desperados waiting... |
