To be clear 556 is a fine road, rather than 420 east of Schultz Pass which absolutely requires 4wd. But 420 from the 180 is a graded wonderland that is no problem for any passenger vehicle.
Hiking was pleasant. Few others, nice colors. Went up the trail to the 9500 foot contour before dropping into the canyon for the return trip. Found a recent lion kill that was a bit disconcerting because there was enough meat there that I was pretty sure we were being surveilled. Otherwise a fun day on the mountain. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial Down low was gone after a windy week. Upper stuff was prime. Still about 20% aspens still green up high. |
