I had not been to this trailhead since they developed it, I found myself very pleased with the effort. Got underway about 7:40 on this beautiful morning. Starting out with the yuccas and the boulders gives the trail a different feel than others. The flowers were sporadic with lupines leading the way. Turning onto the Granite Mountain trail it right away became a more picture worthy trek. The patches of lupines were bigger along with some spots of poppies and owl clover and various others. I had a mockingbird stop and serenade me while I snapped photos of him. The trails got fairly busy with hikers and bike riders. The parking area was about three quarters full when I returned to the trailhead. A great hike but I need to get in good enough shape to tackle the complete Granite Mountain Loop. I was hoping to come across a hedgehog cactus this trip but alas no joy. |
