Plus I wanted to get my own picture of Momma owl and her owlets along the Hawk's Nest trail. I was on the trail about 6:30am under a slightly cloudy sky. I headed up the hill and eventually found myself seeing an owlet in the nest then further up I was able to see Mom. I had to go around a couple of tripod armed, mask wearing photographers who looked like they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. I got to the top of the hill and turned right down the Dixie Mountain trail. I was pleasantly surprised to find lupines still present though they petered out after about a quarter of a mile. There were cholla blooms here and there and some pretty ocotillos also. I went just shy of a half of a mile then turned around. There was a steady stream of hikers and bikers throughout the morning. I made my way back down stopping to get a few more owl shots. The parking area was pretty full and there was a parks and rec truck at the end of the drive. |
