| no partners | | Started from Little Three Creek Lake Trailhead around 1600. Sunny with temps in the 60s. Trail is in good condition. I did the loop in a counterclockwise direction. Took a detour to Golden Lake to check out the view, but decided not to camp there since there was already another group set up. My alternative plan was to camp on the saddle above Green Lake, but it was incredibly windy and cold, so I continued to drop down towards Green Lake. Lots of people camped there- I guess with July 4th coming up it makes sense. I continued on to the very far end of the special camping zone and found a secluded spot on a knoll with a view of Broken Top and South Sister.
On trail around 0500 the next morning. Clouds/Fog blowing down off of South Sister and Broken Top made for some really cool lighting. Lots of snow on the approach to Broken Top, didn't have traction issues- but I was carrying micro spikes so I figured I would use them. No Name Lake at the base of Broken Top is just starting to thaw and looks REALLY cool. Didn't see anyone all morning until I was only about an hour or two out from the trailhead on the ridge section. |
