We started from the south trailhead which is off Arica road and enters the trail system about in the middle (north/south wise). Super easy to get to. Heading south bound on I-10, take the first exit after the I-8 interchange, turn right at the Loves Truck Stop on to Arica road, and follow it (paved all the way) to the end. Parking area is dirt and there is a kiosk that shows the major park trails. There are plenty of developed social single track trails in the park as well as some 4x4 roads. We arrived at the trailhead about 9am to find other bikers and hikers staging to enter the park. We spent the day going up and down and up and down the east side of Casa Grande Mountain. The sound of the traffic on I-10 and I-8 is ever present. Views to the east include Picacho Peak and Newman(?) Peak. We started with a loop on the south side of the park, passed a couple of hikers and saw some bikers in the distance. From there we mostly followed Ridge trail to the north side of the park where we encountered many hikers and a few more bikers. Wiggled our way around and around on some XC type mountain bike trails and eventually back to our trailhead. Fun day at this park that is a relatively short distance from Phoenix metro area. |
