| partners | | Including our arrival/vehicle camp setup day, this was Day 3 of our planned 8 day camp/hike explore trip return to
[ Camp Grasshopper- Redman Mesa- Sierra Ancha NW ] area, bordering the Salome Wilderness and NW Sierra Ancha.
This planned trip visit is an awesome, remote area to vehicle camp and explore in the AZ Springtime was our "Plan B" and not decided until mid-February'21. We followed the HAZ- National Weather Service Point Forecast daily for this area (at 5734ft elevation) into mid-March as our originally planned camp arrival dates were closer. It continued to be cold, wet, with wind and snow in the forecast for days right up to our two day delayed arrival date on Thurs-3/18.
Due to the area wetness on this second visit (first was April'19) and our need to do a lot more area 4WDing to reach our planned hike Parking and TH Starts, we really needed a few days for the roads to dry-out some, so we stayed relatively close to camp for our initial planned hikes on the first three days. I first needed a few easy, leg stretcher hikes anyway since I had basically done nothing for exercise since Dec'20 and that was minimal
Oregon_Hiker and I had two different relatively short driving hikes planned for this day. This first morning hike at Middle Mountain and off 4WD FR236 was to explore up an old Uranium Mining Road visible only on Google Earth, and most likely not known to many other area travelers.
It was just what I needed- remote, easy to navigate, short, and with scenic near and distant views, plus historical value |
