Met 2 other hikers as I was going up the steady climb on Derrick, had the well maintained Highline to myself, surprisingly even had the Springs in privacy for awhile, spent some time scrambling around there, but finally a couple with their dog showed up as I was pushing off. The pine smell is enjoyable on Highline but not too fond of the little pine cones that roll under your feet, as you head down nice to hear the welcoming sound of the creek before you see it.
Enjoyable trip down Horton Creek trail, occasional visit to the creek to wet my neck scarf and to take pictures. Ended up meeting a couple of dozen other hikers on my way to the campground , the parking lot for Horton was full. Disappointed at not seeing the Columbine flowers I enjoyed last year. Another nice day to enjoy the variety Arizona has to offer. Temperature was 65° at the start and 78°at he finish , was 93° in Mesa on the way back. |
