A new sign at the start and even some recent maintenance.
This one is a lung buster and fun. The rock climb portion is my favorite.
Up top on Milk Ranch Point, I took a peak into Johnson Canyon to see if I could find any sign of the old Boy Scout trail. I did find some ed tags, but I had other plans for today. I tied some FR's and some off trail, to make my way north across Milk Ranch Point. The goal today was to find a route down from the beginning (top) of Pine Creek Canyon.
The trek down starts easy enough, but travel gets slower as the canyon walls steepen. Nothing ever too terrible, just slow going. There were only a couple down climbs more than 10' and all were easily negotiated. The only tough part was at the bottom when the ferns got thicker and you could not tell where to step.
The red tags for the Deep Pools Route were very hard to find with the abundance of Maple saplings. The Poison Ivy seems to be extra thick this year.
Finally back on the Pine Canyon Trail, I was greeted with by an irritated Arizona Black in striking mode. I took a few shots and bid him adieu.
I took a short break at the bench before crossing over Pine Creek. I surprised a couple of elk, standing in the creek, getting a drink.
