| no partners | | Wonderful few days staying at the Santa Rita Lodge - hiking, exploring, birding, relaxing, reading and making new friends.
The Lodge is awesome - perfect combination of rustic and updated. The sound of the creek right outside is hard to beat ... I left the windows wide open the first night to enjoy the soothing sound - then woke up freezing at 3:30am. I was the only person in the eight casitas and my new friends were the only ones in the six cabins the first night, with just a couple more arrivals the second night. Office has a book lending library and a large selection of dvds - I borrowed a book about the 1958 boy scout tragedy on Wrightson - it was a good read.
Took several solo and several group hikes along the creek from the lodge downstream to Whitehouse and Proctor and back, plus the Nature Trail and a few road walks up to the other lodges and some night birding. The creek and waterfalls are flowing vigorously and the whole canyon is very lush.
Wildlife was bonkers. Deer, coatis and of course birds! I got a selfie with a coati. And mesmerizing bat videos at the hummingbird feeders!
My buddies were visiting from Pittsburgh, so they got several life birds easily but I couldn't get them a Trogan.
Weather was fantastic, and bugs were few. Very nice steady rain this morning as I was packing up and leaving.
I've already booked my next visit. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Many past prime - would have been amazing two weeks ago. |
