Peak 3004 loop starting at Medicine Wheel Trailhead. Took northwest route (which is part of the Pass Mountain trial) up to what is marked on Google as bulldog saddle. This is the clockwise route. Smooth sailing up to the saddle as usual but finding the proper trail for the loop was difficult. I first took the obvious trail to the right (East), but that just leads to a huge beehive and a trail that just goes into pure rock scramble. Nope. At least not today. I went back to the trail junction with Pass Mountain and tried to find the trail but the only option was the one I took. I found a little path the broke off that trail and I actually bushwhacked a bit, using the Route scout app and then found a series of rudimentary, functional cairnes probably built by other courageous and smart hikers which actually led me to the legit trail which was a joy. Methinks the actual trail probably has a better beginning but maybe I was just too lazy to look for it??
Anyway, the route was clear and easy, once I found it. It ROUGHLY matches the route marked on the map. This was the "low road" as described in the guide.
This was a winter hike so not a lot of bees but I imagine when the valley blooms it will be full of bees.
The most beautiful part is when you get down into the valley and you are far from everything. It's very peaceful and beautiful. Great hike with no person encountered after turning off the Pass Mountain trail. Next time I'm going to see if I can figure out the "high road", but not from the west saddle, but from the eastern one. :D
