| partners | | john and i got up at first light
we wanted to get a hike in before any possible rain
copied @dixieflyer's hike on barbershop over to buck springs cabin
we had done the east cabin loop last summer, but not the little piece to the cabin
got going around 0645 in cool temps
nice hiking through the woods and across meadows
there are quite a few up and downs crossing drainages along this trail
not even a mile into the hike, i startled a bear
it ran off, too quick for a photo or for john to see it
pretty cool, and a first for me in arizona
after the u-bar turnoff, the trail is not as well traveled
crossed a road and spotted the cabins
checked out the cabins and a concrete dam just below them in buck springs canyon
headed back, finishing barbershop over to houston brothers to complete the trail and hit double digits
clouds moved in early, but not even a sprinkle by the time we left at 1445
returned to camp where hank has prepared a wonderful breakfast of potatoes, bacon, eggs and fruit salad
we slowly packed up camp
hank and i took a drive down 139c, then he took john and i up to a hill where there is cell service
hung around camp for a couple of hours enjoying good conversation and the nice cool high country
thanks for the invite @grasshopper!
fun to have janie along, too
we all wished for another day up there |
