Early morning hike at SoMo. Gates didn’t open until a little after 5am, so I didn’t get on the trail until 5:15am. Muddled through the dark initially. Slow but uneventful climb to the tower. Made my way along the National to Goat Hill. Decided to make a loop and went down the Ranger Trail and then took Los Lomitas back to the Kiwanis TH. Only encountered 3 hikers. All around the tower. Temps weren’t bad. In the shade for most of the climbs. Wildlife…quail, lizards and a coyote. Also a lot of what I call “trail doves”. Not sure what their proper name is, but I see these guys in the desert all the time. I usually don’t comment on them, but I must have spooked a couple hundred on my hike today. ……Granted, a lot of them, were the some ones as they kept relocating in front of me
