| no partners | | Early morning hike on this connector trail. Working this trail in short segments. Today I hiked from Sossaman to Queen Creek and Power. Parked at the TH off of Sossaman. (There is an old historic site where the Maricopa Trail crosses Sossaman with parking for about 6 cars). Got started around 6am. This trail is pretty “ennhhh”. It starts off on the west side of Sossaman Rd and goes for about 1.5 miles where it turns west along Queen Creek Wash. The trail signage isn’t too bad, especially if you have an idea where the turns are, but that being said, you need to be looking for them if you want to verify you’re still on trail. Part of the Sossaman Rd segment isn’t too bad. It’s a horse path composed of crushed gravel. When you turn onto the Queen Creek Wash segment, it becomes a paved bike path up to Power Rd. I turned around there, but it looks like the trail surface changes on the west side of Power. The paved path is ok, homes on one side and a small, but well vegetated wash on the other. There was one shaded bench (with an info sign about the importance of Queen Creek Wash and flood control) along the way. The paved path had a Queen Creek Trail marker every .25 miles. There was no name (that I could see) for this path, just Town of Queen Creek marker.
It’s nice having options like this in the summertime, but if you are driving to a trail like this, it’s usually one and done. |
