After our kayak tour, we drove over to the visitor center to do some actual hiking. Due to the recent rains, all of the trails were affected by flooding and/or debris.

The park's signature trail is a 2.4 mile boardwalk loop. It is split into elevated and lower portions, which offer a self-guided tour with a pamphlet. Much of the lower trail was submerged, but with my Tevas, the flooding wasn't a barrier (deepest sections came up to my knees), but did allow me to enjoy lots of solitude!

The elevated portion was busier and also had an impassable barrier where a large tree karate-chopped clean through the boardwalk. So, I ended up doing the loop as an out-and-back in both directions, adding on the Sims trail, which cuts through the diameter of the loop, and tacking on a small portion of the more remote Kingsnake trail.

Saw a snapping turtle, squirrels, and a cool spider--a Golden Silk Orb Weaver.

On the drive out, we also saw an opossum.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

On the drive back to Savannah, we detoured for a quick visit to Charleston as well.
