| no partners | | Nothing of note yet. But change is in the air. I wanted to check the large natural tank feature in a canyon to see if it was lacking in water, and I wanted to go to a large open area at the end of a section of border fence. Quite the entertaining day.
Cold and windy at first. The canyon hike pretty quick due to lack of vegetation and running water. Surprised to see a half azz attempt to string some barbwire across a section. Cattle could easily walk under. Really amazing to see the surface water. There is no known spring in this area but the general area has quite a bit of ground water. The large tank was down a little but still very full and animals could carefully drink without falling in. Drove onto an open area of the canyon nearer the road and found surface water too, and a small but very deep natural tank.
One of the groups that helps the illegals had put up some teepees near the end of the border fence. When I drove up a white pickup popped up out of nowhere. A heavily armed individual engaged me; I was also carrying today as the rancher had advised me of a cartel faction squabble in this section. Some months ago one of his cowboys found a decapitated individual; a message to someone.
After some who's your daddy moments we had a nice conversation for about 15 minutes. Some spotters came down from the Mexican side and he took some water to them thru the fence. I pegged him for a cartel employee but he tried to convince me he was scouting to help the "new administration". And one time he met with the assistant director of Homeland Security in DC. Ya, BS meter going off pretty well now. Driving out about 30 minutes later lots of border patrol racing by; one with lights and siren. Hope he didn't shoot anyone.
Helicopter traffic near the border gap. I thought might be contractors sizing up the job ahead. I had other plans for this weekend but I might go back down to check out something Mr BSr told me. If true I might cut him some slack. |
