| no partners | | Some friends asked if I'd like to join them for a short hike over in the San Tans this morning, and since I've never checked out the area, I figured sure, why not! Good opportunity for another check on the new shoes...
Numerous other hikers and a few mountain bikers encountered - the trail was well maintained and very gently graded. Hiking up to the saddle, there were views of the Malpais Hills along with views north of the valley - the views towards south mountain and the superstitions and beyond were obscured behind quite a blanket of ick air.
Once we popped over the saddle, the views were all of the interior of the park, with mountains/hills all around. It was novel being the fastest in the group for once
Wildlife: Greeted by a cactus wren as we hit the trail, spotted a raptor soaring overhead, and numerous friendly antelope squirrel.
A nice change from South Mountain for a quick urban mountain hike. |

Happier when hiking....I may not move fast (and I'm often distracted by wildflowers), but I'll get there eventually |
